Of course the two brothers hate each other, naturally, and since one wants the other dead... and the other tortures him!
Hopefully this episode was just fluff to get us introduced to Jack's son, which from a logical stand point seems to be the case. However since logic seems to eluding the writers of 24 as of late, this could be the new direction for the entire series.
On the brither side of things, they had a nuclear bomb blow up in Los Angeles, which is where Jack's daughter (and probably most of the show's writers) lived. Of course Jack didn't seem to notice or even care, so why should we? Hopefully they'll explain it further, or maybe the show's staff is just hoping for a quick and painless death of what was once, a wonderful show. Isn't Kiefer Sutherland overdue for some drunken shenanigans that could at least make him somewhat interesting... if even outside of the show?
